Toy Fair 2011: Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo Line Overview

I’m a huge fan of Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo line, so to see the new announcements and figures they have on display at Toy Fair every year is always one of my highlights. This year is no exception as they are showing off the new variant they have of Emma Frost. This variant of her in her diamond form will be a Diamond exclusive so be sure to order her from your favorite local comic shop or online retailer that deals with Diamond.

I’m also really excited to finally get a look at Jean Grey in a more finished form. When they first showed off the art I was really excited even though it’s another Jean Grey figure. This would put my total number of Jean Grey Bishoujo figures to 4 with the 3 Phoenix’s and now the retro 90′s glory. But I also worried. After they released promotional images it just sort of went dark, 2 more figures were announced on the marvel side and I wondered if it had maybe been scrapped. Well it wasn’t, and it’s beautiful with one of the more epic bases I’ve seen on a PVC figure.

The rest of the upcoming line was also on the rack so take a look at the gallery below to get a look at everything they had to share. Be sure to check back with us later in the week for a far more detailed overview and full galleries from multiple angles of all the new Bishoujo figures.

Thanks to our resident toy photographer and reviews editor Stephen Donaldson for the fantastic toy photography from the show floor.

Looking good, although I think most of these have been seen before, (with the exception of jean grey, for whom we’d only seen concept art, and the diamond form emma frost — is this the con exclusive this year?). Still, they look great. Cannot wait for Wonder Woman, Ms. Marvel, and Catwoman, in particular!

  2. Yeah they came out with the Jean Design and then went silent on it. Then figures were announced that weren’t it and a lot of folks thought they might have scrapped it. They didn’t….and I’m glad. Emma is Diamond Comics exclusive. So you’ll have to order it from a retailer that deals with Diamond. Comic Shops, I think Big Bad Toy Store and other places you should be able to get it pretty easily. I can’t wait as it really kind of makes sense. Plus it’s fun to call it the diamond exclusive diamond variant. Love it though I does

Thanks for the clarification on Emma… guess I’ll have to talk to my LCS about ordering it then… we already have the normal variant, but, in the interest of being a completionist… :D

Does anyone have a release date on the Emma Diamond Variant? I’ve been searching everywhere online to find more info and so far this is the only place that has anything about it. I checked Big Bad Toy Store as they’re my go-to website for all my comic needs, but nothing there yet.

    • it’s Diamond Comics Exclusive so it will be solicited in the diamond previews order form. I’m guessing it will be this month whne it comes up. BBTS will probably put it up right when the order form is released and you’ll be able to get it from any comic shop
